Happy New Year my blog FAM! Hope you all had a wonderful start to the new year! I still can’t believe that another year flew by in a flash. Did you make any resolutions for the new year? Well, I don’t coz the ones that we all end up making shouldn’t be categorized as RESOLUTIONS as such, it should be more like a lifestyle change.
But, as we step into 2024, it’s customary to reflect on the past year and set resolutions for the one ahead. However, not all resolutions are created equal, and some may do more harm than good. Let’s dive into six to seven life, health, and beauty resolutions that might sound enticing but are best left behind in the rearview mirror.

EXTREME DIETING
Resolution to Avoid: Crash diets and extreme fasting may promise rapid weight loss, but they often lead to nutritional deficiencies and can wreak havoc on your metabolism. Instead, focus on adopting a balanced and sustainable approach to eating, emphasizing whole foods and portion control. I have been on an app HealthifyMe and I love how it helps me keep in track of my daily meals, [reotin , carb , water and all that I need two reach my health goal.
OVERexercising
Resolution to Avoid: While staying active is crucial for health, overexercising can lead to burnout, injuries, and negatively impact mental well-being. Opt for a realistic and enjoyable fitness routine that suits your lifestyle, ensuring both physical and mental benefits without excessive strain. I get dizzy when I run or do exercises with sudden jerks or motion- so I avoid them. I stick to a balanced mix of yoga and strength training, and I think I’m a good place with my health and fitness.
UNREALISTIC BEAUTY STANDARDS
Resolution to Avoid: Striving for an unrealistic beauty ideal can result in low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction. Every person, every skin color, every face shape, every skin need is different, and setting yourself goal based on other’s, will not do you any good. Instead, embrace self-love and focus on achievable goals that enhance your natural beauty, like adopting a consistent skincare routine or practicing self-care rituals.
IGNOring mental health
Resolution to Avoid: Neglecting mental health is a common oversight. Resolving to push through stress without addressing its root causes can lead to burnout. Prioritize mental well-being by incorporating relaxation techniques, therapy, or mindfulness practices into your routine.
I have done that and realized it the harder way that mental health needs to be addressed and cured medically. It is considered a taboo and people with mental weaknesses are looked down upon. But, the day you prioritize mental health or treat it as just any other illness like diabetes or arthritis and take charge, things will start to feel better instantly.
perfectionism
Resolution to Avoid: Striving for perfection in every aspect of life can lead to chronic stress and dissatisfaction. Allow yourself room for growth and imperfection, setting realistic goals and celebrating progress rather than aiming for an unattainable ideal.
It is definitely harder said than done, coz giving away control has never been EASY. I always strive for perfection in everything, and have always gone to extreme heights to please people around me. But have now realized that no one will judge you if things aren’t perfect, coz what might be imperfect for you could be perfect for others. So stop setting unrealistic standards for yourself, stop being a people pleaser too.
So, here’s a quick reminder of things that are realistic to achieve and should be on your growth list for 2024.
- Prioritize Mental Well-being: Make a commitment to prioritize your mental health. Incorporate mindfulness practices, take breaks when needed, and seek professional help if necessary. A healthy mind is the foundation for a fulfilling life and remember it is okay to say NO when you want to.
- Nourish Your Body: Adopt a balanced and sustainable approach to nutrition. Focus on nourishing your body with whole foods, staying hydrated, and indulging in occasional treats. A well-fed body is a happy and healthy one. It is okay to take an afternoon nap if your body craves it, it is okay if your child misses a soccer practice, it is okay to give yourself a break from the mundane life.
- Consistent Physical Activity: Instead of extreme workouts, commit to consistent physical activity that aligns with your preferences. Whether it’s yoga, walking, or gym sessions, regular movement contributes to overall well-being.
- Practice Gratitude: Cultivate a habit of gratitude. Life is unpredictable, do what needs to be done today, Stop worrying about tomorrow. Regularly acknowledging the positive aspects of your life can improve mental health, foster a positive outlook, and enhance overall life satisfaction.
As we embark on this new year, let’s bid farewell to resolutions that bring more stress than joy and welcome those that contribute to a balanced, healthy, and beautiful life. Here’s to a year filled with growth, self-love, and genuine well-being!
