Hello Lovelies!
Today’s post is an ode to my love for saris. There is nothing more elegant, lady-like and sensuous than a sari. I started wearing saris only after my wedding, my engagement being the first time I wore one. These days I try to wear one whenever I get a chance and with Navratri coming up- I thought I should wear one.
Saris have definitely come a long way from being just a long, six yard trail of fabric. Ruffles, lace, pre-draped, there are so many modern variations available this days. While, I am still catching up with this modern day sari, the ruffle style in particular caught my eye. I had been wanting to buy one, but in a super bright color or print and this dramatic one from KALKI hit the bull’s eye for me.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE SARI
This chartreuse green sari came pre-fabricated with the ruffle at the pallu end. It is lightweight, pure satin silk and I was able to customize the width; which was a win-win for my taller frame. The blouse design could be customized, but I preferred the dramatic ruffle look and went for it. I couldn’t have been more impressed with both the tailor’s skills and my husband’s measuring skills. Hubs usually helps me with the body measurements for custom tailoring and he gets it right each time ;).
I have been shopping a lot of Indian retailers lately, as most of them now deliver to the US. The shipping is either a flat rate or free if you spend a minimum. Since I get asked about them a lot on my social media, I thought I would do a round up of my favorites.
The Sari that you see on me is from KALKI FASHION. Another outfit that I ordered from this retailer can be found HERE. Combined both outfits I paid close to $425 and I feel it was a deal. The shipping was free and fast.
Pernia’s pop-up shop is a platform for luxury ethnic wear. It’s like a marketplace for all high-end Indian designers. They have products ranging from $20 to $6k. Their shipping is free if you spend over $250 and takes around 4-6 weeks depending on your order. If you order ready-to-wear, shipping is faster, otherwise it takes longer for custom-made pieces.
This is the one-stop-shop for all your SARI needs. They offer saris from all across India at a very affordable price. I own 6-7 saris from them and have only good things to say about the same. Check out my Tyaar India saris HERE, HERE and HERE.
