If you haven’t gotten the trend memo yet, let me say it loud ” Denim Maxi Skirt is your new LBD”. I was so excited to see this silhouette all over the runway and even more excited to see it on real people. This skirt style is long, fitted, slimming, and makes you look taller.
I tend to steer away from fitted, straighter style skirts coz it really does nothing for my straighter frame. This really didn’t tickle my fancy when brand new. I was on the fence about this skirt style for my body, so I kept passing it over. But, there are so many variations to this skirt, slits and flared bottom to name a few, that I eventually caved in!

BUYING DILEMMA
I did have to try on a few different styles to find the best for me. But, with so many possibilities out there, I was bound to find the right one. Strangely, I found mine at GAP ( sold out ). Never in a million years did I think that GAP would make a fabulous skirt like this. Not only was the skirt available, it was available in different hem lengths: petite, regular and tall. I knew I needed the TALL for longer gams and rest is history.
It was love at first trial, the fit was perfect, the slit was right and the baggy at the bottom was so forgiving. While I had found my skirt, I needed to find out ways to style and restyle it. I really adhere to the ‘ RULE OF THREE ‘ when considering newer pieces for my wardrobe. If I can come up with three different outfits instantly, the clothing item stays an if not, then it goes back to the store.
styling TIPS
My simple formula for styling this skirt, keep the shirt streamlined and let the skirt be the unsung hero. Adding a belt at the waist will give more definition and balance all proportions. The idea is to have fun with this retro trend and give it your own signature look.
Another street style look that I’m loving is the oversized blazer over the skirt, shirt tucked in off-course. There is something very exhilarating about a juxtaposed outfit. Mixing feminine with masculine pieces always makes a look stand out, in a good way! I can’t wait to grab hub’s blazer for that oversized look and wear with this skirt. As the weather gets warmer, I am going to try it with a padded shoulder t-shirt tucked in- super excited !
I’ve styled my other pencil maxi denim skirt a couple ways and you can find them HERE and HERE.
