So excited for my first of the year in this series “SAUMYA IN THE CITY”, where I take you to one local DC area hotspot. I started this series a few years go as a way to showcase some of the non-touristy things we Dc’ites enjoy. I had intended to make it a monthly thing but the pandemic threw me a major timeline curveball and I had to slow down! Glad things are getting back to normal and so is my attendance at local things and places.
So, without wasting any extra second, let’s turn today’s spotlight on Privai Spa and Salon. It is a Spa+Salon located in the heart of Pike and Rose on the second floor of the Canopy by Hilton Hotel. I had seen the salon remodeling underway when I stayed at the Canopy late last year, but when I visited it last week- I was left mind-blown! I say ‘remodeling’ coz Privai took over the space that was once home to Elizabeth Arden The Red Door salon and spa.
The space and layout was there, Privai just acquired the space and altered it to suit its needs and services. Talking about services, Privai is a full-service Spa and Salon with hair, body, face, nail care all under one roof. Cofounded by Ilana Alberico and Christina Stratton in 2006, Privai now has over 20 locations throughout the US. Dedicated to personal wellness for all; their vision for Privai originated with “spa in a bottle” skincare products, designed for accessible luxury relaxation.
first impression of Privai
The second you step into the space, a sense of calm takes you over. I dislike going to salons where both the staff and the place give you that sales-pitch kind of a vibe- Privai was nothing like that. An open plan with paisley floor, neatly organized shelves, and nothing stodgy sets the tone for a calmer you. If you have a thing for artistic floors like I do, then you are in a for an eye candy.
Services offered at privai
Now switching gears from the appearance, let’s delve into the details of the services they offer. Privai offers hair and color care, nail care not limited to pedicure and manicure, and spa and facial services. I was in dire need of a facial post my month-long India trip and I’m so glad I chose Privai! I opted for their Custom Facial which is tailored as per your skins needs.
Privai’s working mantra is “not one size fits all!” Not everyone’s skin is the same, not everyone can handle all the products and treatment. There is no cookie-cutter package or any shortcuts for them. The esthetician will first make you fill out a form and then go over with you regarding your concern areas. Post that she will explain your treatment plan and brief you up on Privai’s in-house products she’d be using.
honest review
Everything at Privai was top-notch and I walked out all relaxed and glowy. What I appreciated the most was the esthetician’s ability to answer all my beauty questions to my satisfaction. She educated me along the way and we spoke about products that are good and not-so-good for women my age. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a deep cleanse, extraction and glow. What I took home with me
- Glowing skin.
- Daily mantra: “LESS IS MORE”! Our body naturally produces what our skin needs for nourishment. We sometimes need to accelerate the process with the littlest amount of skincare products on the outside.
- At-home remedy for dehydrated skin: increase your water-intake and mineralize it with berries, cucumber or lime slices. Minerals strengthen the matrix of the skin, support immunity, maintain a correct status quo and balance, help prevent and treat skin disorders and disease, and slow down aging.
- Avoid using too much of products like collagen-boosters and retinol, as prolonged use of these can strip skin layers. This will make your skin all the more vulnerable.
- Lots more health and beauty tips.
