Happy First day of the month of LOVE… Happy Lunar New Year!
Can’t believe we are already one month down in this new year- time flies the you are/aren’t having fun! Anyways, it’s the month of love and I can find enough reasons to celebrate this with your loved ones. Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday this year, we’ve decided to stay in and celebrate with a family-style brunch. Of course I had to get a head start on the table setting and menu lineup.
I always like to put some extra effort and thought into my tablescape coz it just makes the overall food experience memorable. A simple food menu with a side of dressed up table makes a heart-winning combo for my family, at least for me it does! This year it’s going to be a Garden themed Valentine’s Brunch Tablescape for us.

Now you might want to know ” why a Garden theme Brunch? ” To me flowers signify love and care and there couldn’t be a better way to extend that love to your family than variety of flowers put together. More so, I really did not want to go shopping for any new china, so the pink dinner set I bought four years ago became my starting point. Once I had the color scheme locked in, I had to find ways to bring together as many floral/garden elements into the tablescape.
Let me quickly breakdown the different elements and how they
centerpiece
I bought this faux eucalyptus peony garland that doubles up as a table runner and a wall decor. It is such a good quality for the price. I had to work a bit on opening the flowers, but once done they looked pretty amazing! Those candle stands are my go-to for any occasion. The plain gold design makes it suitable for any theme. I’ve used these over and over and they seem to go well each time. A tablescape is incomplete without fresh floral arrangement, hence a simple bouquet of colorful roses.
The plate setting
The classic-casual order in which the plates are placed is charger first, I swapped out mine for the dinner plates, then salad plate, then bowl, and then the napkins to pull it all together. A formal table setting would have couple different sized forks and knives depending on the number of courses. But when at home I switch as per my convenience. For this I just used folks and knives.
The white pasta bowl on its own felt a tad bit uninteresting, hence I added those DIY napkin rosettes. These added some color to the plate setting and more flowers to my theme. Find the rosette tutorial here.
Finishing touches
It’s always the extras that make the whole set up come together. In my tablescape it’s the Valentine Gnomes that add the finishing touch.
Food/Beverage
Weekend brunches for us always include either pancakes or waffles with a side of eggs. I bought these plant-based waffle mixes and the Banana chocolate chip was the yummiest, guilt-free choice. To go with the theme I made them in my heart-shaped waffle maker. I am a total idiot for having forgotten the deviled eggs in the fridge. I made them that morning and totally forgot about them when shooting. I remembered only after the cupcakes and waffles were gone- my bad!
The cupcakes were Gluten free as well. I bought those edible paper butterflies that made the cupcakes even more theme-apt. Inadvertently, my menu ended up being vegan with the deviled eggs missing in sight. As for the drinks, I plan on setting up a MYOM ( make your own mimosa) station- I personally enjoy that making your own drink experience. What you see in the images is a ‘lavender-infused gin tonic‘ cocktail. It was so refreshing….stay tuned….recipe coming up soon!
Will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this year? Who do you plan to celebrate with? Are you going out or celebrating-in? Too many questions but do let me know in the comment section below. I would love to learn about your celebration plans.
