If you follow me on Instagram you should have noticed my new curly hair by now. I have been curling ( perming as my folks say in India ) my hair lately. It has become a regular show on my Instagram feed and stories. It is a new look that I tried and trust me guys ” IT HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE!”
I’ve gotten mixed reviews on this new look and I truly appreciate each one who stepped forward to share their feedback. Let’s start with the not so good comments- you look big, everything looks big, looks unruly, I don’t like it! Now for the good ones- I love it, it suits you, you look like a model, looks sultry and sexy, looks amazing, you look like a TV celeb, perfect summer look!”
Honestly, I though most of you’d like it but I was torn to find out that some of my closed ones, including my sister, weren’t too crazy. So, for all those who like it, keep reading to see how I achieve this look and also to find out why I continue wearing my hair this way.

My original hair is a bit textured and wavy, well most South Asians have textured, wavy, thick hair. But, I never embraced my natural waves- I either straightened them or used a curling iron to give more shape to my natural waves. I wouldn’t have tried this heatless look if it wasn’t for my recent partnership with HASK HAIR curl care. They sent me their curl care line to try out and ‘I was super impressed.’
The set comprises 7 different products- the shampoo, the conditioner, the intensive care deep conditioner, the leave-in-conditioner-spray, the curl defining cream, the curl shaping jelly, and the curl enhancing mousse. You don’t really need all of the above to achieve the beautiful ringlets. The shampoo, conditioner, mousse, leave-in-conditioner and the curl-defining cream would suffice if you have hair texture like mine. But you have really curly latina or African-american hair, I would suggest buying the curl-shaping jelly.
HOW I ACHIEVE MY CURLY HAIR LOOK
Using the right products, in the right amount can make hair styling so much easier. I start with the shampoo and conditioner. Soon after I step out of the show, I go in with the mousse and a couple spritz of the leave-in-conditioner spray. Then comes the curl-defining cream. For this I section my hair in 2-3″ wide sections, melt the cream in between my palms and then apply all over the section. Then I take time and scrunch my hair upwards. It is a time consuming process as you have to go section-by-section. But the overall results will be amaing.
Once you are done scrunching your whole head of hair, you have the option to either air-dry your hair or use a diffuser. If you are posited for time and need more defined ringlets- go for the diffuser. Otherwise, air-drying does a phenomenal job! I chose to use a diffuser.
WHY I CHOOSE TO CURL MY HAIR THIS SUMMER?
Despite all the comments/compliments on my new hair look, I will continue curling my hair for the following reasons…
- I feel good/sexy in my curled hair
- It is easy and most of the times no heat/styling tool is required
- I think it is a fun look of the summer
- It is frizz-proof. The worst that could happen in extreme humidity is the curls loosing their tightness
- It is a different, new look that I now enjoy doing
- It is Riri-approved ( my daughter approves of it)
