Sorry for the radio silence here on the blog. I really wanted to talk a break post the video marathon that has been happening on Instagram Reels. Check out my 9 days of Sari draping series HERE.
Anyways, I’m glad to be back to my blog-my happy place. Where no one judges me, there is no worrying about algorithm, just fun and all my awesome fans. A place where I can be myself and express without any strings attached.
Talking about which, I wanted to revisit the most sought after trend that has taken the fashion scene by storm- THE SHOULDER PADS. This 80’s trend is back and I couldn’t be more excited. It is everywhere, sweatshirts, t-shirts, blazers, you pick out a top and possible it might have the strong shoulder pads. The question is how do you wear this trend if you have shoulder pads??
I love structured, well-defined shoulders and seeing all the options around- I had to bring it up here. Some ways you could wear shoulder pads despite their broader shoulders and without looking like a wrestler.
Outfit details
- T-shirt with shoulder pads- BANANA REPUBLIC, shop similar here
- Jeans- ZARA, shop similar here for under $25
- Booties- c/o SAM EDELMAN
- Cardigan- ZARA
- Belt- GUCCI GG belt
Honestly speaking, I thought it would be really hard to style a padded shirt. But, trust me it is super easy as it is all about the proportions. If you can visualize and get the proportions right in your head, then this trend is super wearable.
Keep the overall silhouette as form-fitting as possible when wearing shoulder pads because it is about proportions. In my case I personally chose to tuck in the shirt to keep the fitting as close as possible. This way I could show off my slender, well almost slender, waist which sort of shifted the focus from the padded shoulders to the waist.
I would recommend choosing a bottom that has volume and flares down below the fitted waistline. This sort of balances the voluminous pads and gives you an hourglass shape. I chose baggy jeans which adds visual appeal to the bottom half without clashing too much for attention with the shirt.
I always advocate keeping one focal point in your outfit. The focus should have been the padded shirt, but thats not the case. I added the big buckle belt as my secondary focal point. It draws attention away from the pads making it less of a concern for females with already broader shoulders.
Choose longer chains or longer neck pieces when picking out your accessories. Because necklaces with shorter links or even chokers would just add more volume to the neck area making the padded top look even busier and broader. A longer piece would distract, elongate and add drama without going overboard.

Really great outfit! I love your boots and the sassy way you have styled this padded shoulder top. It looks amazing on you! I have very broad shoulders and so I was never a fan of padded tops or blazers. But I do love the dramatic effect on others! Wonderful styling!

You are rocking this trend!! I was definitely skeptical about shoulder pads coming back at first, but I really like how you put together this outfit. And I totally agree with what you were saying about your blog – it’s so nice to take a break from social media and realize that your blog is completely your own space, where only you make the rules!
Hope your week is going well so far.

What a fun way to make a unique statement! You wear it so beautifully. Love your sunnies and boots! On another note, I hear you in regards to blogging. I love it way more than I do any social media. I like that it is totally our own space and there isn’t any algorithm change like how IG is just so frustrating these days! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Another fabulous outfit! I love the slouchy cardigan, beautiful colour. I have broad shoulders but that doesn’t put me off wearing shoulder pads – my theory is anything that emphasizes my shoulders makes my waist look smaller!
