Honestly speaking, while the entire world was cribbing about the ample time they had on hand to kill during quarantine, most of the mom’s days, including mine, was busier than ever. Our days felt endless and was chock-a-blocked with home schooling , cooking more meals, cleaning and scrubbing with chlorine to keep the house germ-free and in my case hanging the washed clothes out to dry as my dryer broke down the first week of quarantining. And if that wasn’t enough work for me, my kitchen refrigerator broke down a few weeks later, which mean’t running down two flights of steps to get stuff from my basement refrigerator. It has been such a hassle, it’s like running up and down twenty times a day. We were finally able to get someone from the Home Warranty to come out to inspect and good news- we are getting a replacement soon.
Anyways, this whole stay-at-home ordeal has left me so exhausted that this mama needed a day off. Since the spas are still closed, I thought I’d create my own spa escape at home and what better than having your partner-in-crime as your sidekick!!!!!
Be it foam bath, bath salts or bath bombs- there are so many options for you to indulge in. Letting you in on a little secret- I got those bath salts and bath bomb to talk about at the request of my follower last summer but couldn’t post about em as I had to leave for India to attend the last rites of my late FIL. When I returned back to States it was too late and I was a little lazy to post. But this quarantine was the perfect time to bust it out.
Since my house is fifty years old, the bathrooms aren’t that spectacular with the blue and grey tile, which presumably was the trend back then. Personally, I am not gaga about that aqua tile but that didn’t come in my way to relaxation. Big bathroom or no big bathroom, tub or no tub- doesn’t matter, there are numerous ways to treat yourself to a spa retreat.
We played around with the bath bombs and bath salts to get the desired color and fragrance and just soaked all our tiredness away. Ms. Riri soaked in a bubble bath first and then I did with my book and wine and some candles- it was such a treat.
You can choose to immerse in the moment either by dipping your full body in a tub with bath bombs and salts or just by dipping your toes in a foot spa tub. Both work wonders and melts aways your tiredness.
Bath Bombs
Bath bombs are hard-packed mixtures of dry ingredients like baking soda which effervesce when wet. They are used to add essential oils, scent, bubbles or color to bathwater. Don’t mistake it for soap- these don’t foam up, they merely add color and oil to your water. So you might still need some bubble bath liquid if you are looking for that bubbly foamy dip.
Bath Salts
Bath salts have long been used as an easy and inexpensive way to treat mental and physical health ailments. Bath salts, which are commonly made from magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) or sea salt, are easily dissolved in warm bath water and used for everything from stress relief to aches and pains. These just melt in warm water, turning the water into a relaxation haven.
When soaking in a bath tub always practice caution. Check for the water temperature before stepping in. The water temperature should be warm enough to avoid any scalding. Make sure you keep an eye on your tub caddy as it may tip over with all your wine and candle ending up in water. It happened to me once a long time ago and my wine glass shattered into pieces, making my experience everything but relaxing. Before stepping out rinse off the soap and oil throughly to avoid any slipping.
Face Masks / Pedicure / Manicure
If tub and all the hassle is out of capacity for your now, try face masks followed with a dip in a Foot Spa Tub like this one. They are an instant mood-booster and are you feel good about yourself. I do face masks weekly on days I am feeling too tired. It just goes me an excuse to escape and enjoy some me-time.
