Memorial Day is next Monday. Not only is it a long weekend ( as if it matters when everyday is the same at home these days ), it happens to be our first National holiday as an American Family. Hubs got naturalized a couple months ago and we never got a chance to celebrate. So, we decide to something fun this weekend. Come back this Monday for an all American picnic we are having in our backyard to celebrate our new nationality.
Coming back to the scarf, since there is not much to do during this long weekend, no parade, no patriotic get togethers, nada- I wanted to bring some US cheer home. I have a picnic planned for the family but sartorially I wanted to do something different from what I’ve done in the past on such holidays- cue RED, WHITE and BLUE outfits here, here and here. Coincidentally I found this scarf in my stash the other day, can’t recollect from whom but it was a gift, that I decided to wear as my ode to this country.
These are just some effortless styles that elevate any simple outfit and make a welcoming change from the ordinary. These styles work on both straight and wavy hair. Keep some elastic bands, clips and hairspray handy.

Front Twist
I wear my scarves like this all the time and it happens to be Miss. Riri’s new favorite way to wear mommy’s scarves. For this style you first threefold the scarf if it is oblong or diagonally for a square one. Now looping at the nape of your neck you bring the loss ends to the front, braid, take the ends back to the nape and tie a knot. Since my scarf was long and oblong, I twisted the scarf a few times, but you could just twist the two sides just once and tie it at the nape of your neck. Easy as one, two, three.

Nape Bow
This ones got be my favorite of all the four. There is something about the way the scarf looks on your forehead, it is just phenomenal, and bonus- it hides all the grey. Anyways, for this style I roughly bunched the scarf along the length, looped it starting from the forehead to the nape and tied a knot closer to my left ear so that the loose ends fell on the same side.

Ponytail Tie
This is the easiest, no-brainer style of all the styles. Make a ponytail, secure with an elastic band, tie the scarf around it and let the loose ends fall to the front. You could make a simple knot or a bow knot depending on the length of the scarf. Since my scarf is long, there was enough room for a bow tie.

Ponytail Wrap
My second favorite of the four- the ponytail wrap. Since my scarf was long and I had a lot of fabric to wrap around, it gave my hair so much thickness, which I don’t mind considering the final look. But otherwise it is such a sleek style. You can go from the previous look ( ponytail tie) to this one in no time. Twist the two ends around your hair top to bottom, going in opposite directions. Towards the end tie a knot and pull out a few strands from the temple area for that playful look.
Which look is your favorite?
