Everything these days is about drama. From the health crisis to politics, from the public to the private, from the kids/husbands and to all in between-everyone is being so dramatic. Since drama is the new black, it will be worth adding some sartorial drama into your wardrobe and nothing like a blouse or dress with some puffy sleeves to add that drama that your outfit deserves.
While the puffy sleeves can be a bit intimidating and can look pirate-y, it is still a hot trend and with right proportions and a few simple hacks up your sleeves- it is totally wearable.
Cinch Your Waist
Puffy sleeves and their eye-catching volume can overpower your look but cinching your waist creates a more balanced proportion and is the easiest solution to quell the drama going on in the upper half. Cinched waist creates balance and helps with proportions.
Think Longer Silhouette
When you have so much going up top you need to distract from the drama. Enter maxi dresses and jumpsuits. A longer silhouette shifts the focus from the statement shoulders and renders the look visually balanced.
Go For Bolder Prints
Bolder prints and puffy sleeves together can look too much, but if done right- they make a statement. The two work in tandem to add drama and recenter the focus on your outfit as a whole, instead of having all attention on one element. This one has to be my favorite hack, I would any day go for the bold print and the bolder sleeves- check out one of my look HERE.
Go Sheer or Go Home
With credits to brands like Zara and Nasty Gal, the balloon sleeve trend initially came out in sheer fabrics, which was later mass produced in different materials. Since the fabric is transparent, there’s only a gentle outline of the puffy sleeves, as opposed to a full-on opaque sphere on your upper arm, so the overall look is less intense and more romantic.
