PS- the picture might not be relevant to today’s post, but these are my stock photos that I shot before social-distancing. These are all I have. So, please bear with me…
We all are in an uncharted territory right now and when the entire economy is struggling to stay afloat, you would be curious why am I asking you to shop??? Well, it might sound a bit obnoxious to many but there are certain essentials you must consider prioritizing. The economy ain’t getting better anytime soon and while stores are trying their best to stock up regularly, certain things are already out of stock nationwide and there is no guarantee of restocking. Considering the stores will be running on a 20-30% capacity in the near future, these are the things I would highly recommend stocking up on your next visit to the store.
Grocery
Think long-term and stock up on items that are nonperishable. Items like pasta, pasta sauce, beans, rice, pulses, flour, canned foods and packaged foods that will last you a long time. These items can be combined with other items to make several dishes. Consider buying these from the wholesalers like Costco, Walmart or Amazon. Per unit cost will come out cheaper if you buy in bulk from these retailers. Arrange them in your pantry and maintain a lit of what you have, this will ensure timely use of the stuff.Frozen goods
Going to the store to buy fresh produce frequently might not be feasible and certainly not advisable, as everyone is trying to minimize human contact, so make the freezer section your first stop during your next store visit. It is very unlikely that you might loose power, so don’t hesitate in buying frozen food. If your store has fresh produce in abundance, buy them, wash them thoroughly, dry them, pack them in single serve size ziploc packets and freeze them. This will last in your fridge for months. Packing them in single serve size packets will make your job easier- just pop open a packet and use without having to worry about repackaging any.Beauty
When I say beauty, I don’t mean lipsticks and eyeshadows that honestly don’t make sense considering how long this quarantine is going to last. What I meant was skincare and beauty products that you can’t live without. This is the time you can take better care of your skin and give it all the love and attention that you might have deprived it off in the past. This is the time the self-care is a real thing and has become quite achievable. Stores are offering F&F discounts and flash sales on upscale beauty products. This is the time to stock up on your favorites as you don’t know what’s in store for your favorite store. Let me be honest- it is here today but it might be gone tomorrow.Health
We all have finally come to the realization that “HEALTH IS WEALTH”. This global health crisis has reiterated the above and made us rethink our lifestyle and health priorities. Next time you visit the pharmacy make sure you pick up your prescription and other basic medicines, health supplements, PPI’s, ibuprofen, pain killers, cold and flu meds, cough syrups, allergies, antiseptic creams, topical creams, band aid, tampons, pads and pain-relief sprays that you might need in the event you are injured or something uneventful happens which might need immediate medical attention at home. The hospitals and ER’s are inundated with Coronavirus patients and might not be able to assist you for other ailments, in which case you will have to treat yourself.Household supplies
The list is quite extensive but the household supplies that you should have in your home right now are cleaning sprays, hand soaps, hand sanitizers, kitchen rolls, toilet roll, toilet bowl cleaners, laundry detergent, and dishwasher liquid. While stores and online retailers are already out of supplies mainly hand sanitizers and disinfecting sprays or are reserving these for priority institutions like hospitals and medical practices, there are certain supplies you can buy to make the disinfecting sprays yourself at home. For instance you can make your own home cleaner with a mixture of soap and water. For a stronger spray that can be used outdoor and for disinfecting all the packages you receive in your mail- mix one tablespoon of chlorine bleach in a gallon of water and you have your own disinfectant that is guaranteed to kill the virus. While clothes might not be on you current shopping list, in case you are still interested in buying pieces similar pieces from my outfit, all are on saleā¦.
