Beauty industry is as fickle as the fashion industry. Similar to fashion trends, beauty trends come and go at jet speed. This year is no exception and like any other year beauty brands released several editorials about the trend changes and I was bummed to see some of the popular ones not on the list.
But, today we won’t dive deep into the new trends but would address and pay our tribute to the ones that are dead and couldn’t make it to the beauty trend list for 2020.
BOLD EYELINER– Cat eye and winged liners had a major moment last year but this year it’s all about the eyeshadow flick- “sorry my favorite liquid eyeliner, I will have to just let you dry out in solace”. It’s the year to play up your eyeshadows and create that winged look with bolder eyeshadows. Personally, I was a bit bummed cuz I loved my winged eye liners, but happy cuz liners needed patience and skill. There was never a time when I would get it right at the first attempt. I have been winging out my eyeshadow and getting the illusion of large eyes was never this easier and quicker.
MATTE SKIN– time to bid farewell to all your mattifying foundations and powders. No matte looks are out, natural dewy skin is IN! As someone with oily skin, I would always reach out for mattifying foundations and now with this new trend thirty percent of my makeup will need to be replaced. Just literally, but I am so looking forward to the natural glowing skin. Time to stock up on glow oils.
HEAVY CONTOURING– I am glad the beauty Gods finally heard my prayers. Contouring had a major moment the last couple of years, thanks to the Kardashian sisters for popularizing this beauty trend. But I am overly-joyed this trend is dead. Not only did I personally struggle with contouring, there were major failed cases on the internet, and when I say failed- I mean cakey, patchy failed attempts. Time to flaunt your natural face shape and steer clear of pancake face.
MATTE LIPSTICK– I am heartbroken and will have the hardest time letting this one go. I love my MATTE lipsticks and will probably hang on to a few and wear them just occasionally, but a pretty glossy lip is the new matte. I was at Sephora a few days ago and the SA made me try a few Marc Jacobs ones and those were bomb- non sticky, hi-shine but subtle looking gloss. I might consider stocking up on a few natural shades but reds and darker shades will have to work a tad bit harder to win my heart.
LIP FILLERS– Ladies with thin lips or advocates of non-injectable cosmetic procedures, time to rejoice- natural lip is back in fashion. I am happy this trend is dead, ‘AU NATUREL’ is always cool after all. Remember the time when the internet broke and everyone wanted to get Kylie Jenner’s thick lips. Honestly, I was grossed. Fake lips will always look fake no matter what you do or how hard you try to cover it up. I am not saying this cuz I am naturally blessed with decent plump lips, I would have said that even if I had petite lips. You can always use lip pencils and glossy lipsticks for a more fuller lip look.
TOUSELED/ WAVY HAIR– time to give your curling irons a break and bring the straightening irons out of hibernation. Wavy/tousled hair is history, straight sleek hair is the present wavy hair. I couldn’t be happier for obvious reasons- my haircut looks good sleeker and straighter. What do you think about sleeker more polished hair looks?
