For the kind of profession I am in, I am always in need of new clothes as frequently as the trend changes. Trends and credit card bills go hand in hand for me- the faster the trend changes the faster my credit card bills hike. I admit that I might have a shopping problem but I feel proud that lately I have been gravitating towards the rental model for ready-to-wear such as the Rent The Runway (RTR).
I have talked about RTR on the blog in that past and I won’t stop raving about this awesome service, mainly for the reasons below.
1) It is Earth Day/week
Did you know that 26 billion pound of clothing ends up in landfills each year and only 15% gets either donated or recycled. I am glad to have found Rent the Runway- ever since I joined RTR, I buy less cuz I rent more. I now feel less guilty about buying, wearing a few times and then dumping in garbage module that I lived by in the past. Now I feel good about being eco-conscious.
2) It is easy to join and is uber affordable
The model itself is very easy and affordable. You create an account with your email, enter your personal and payment info, choose your plan and you are all set- you are now ready to rent. I have the RTR unlimited plan- for just $159 a month I can rent and swap unlimited number of times in any given month, as long as I limit to four items per rental. The clothes are dry-cleaned after every wear and you get your delivery in a fresh garment bag with return label attached. You have the option to pause or cancel anytime. Good news- you could get 50% off your first RTR unlimited with code ‘ SSHIOH50 ‘ …..happy renting!
3) It is America’s largest closet
As I like to call RTR- ‘America’s largest closet ‘. Imagine the adrenaline rush you would get when you have a virtual closet with infinite options to choose from. Thanks for their stylist service and minute-filter options, without which I would have gotten lost in that vast sea of sartorial options. In case you did not know, you can rent clothes, bags and even accessories at RTR.
4) It is a designer rental service
Most of the clothing items that you rent from RTR are designer, both high and medium-end, and retail for above $150 and can go up to thousands of dollars. Rarely have I come across a piece that would retail for under $150. Nonetheless, the designer clothing is now at your finger tip with RTR. You can wear designer pieces without the designer price tag and no one will know.
5) It now offers kids rental
I won’t lie ‘ I almost had a heart-attack when I saw girls clothes up for rent.‘ I would have never in the wildest of dreams bought Riri a Fendi dress retailing for $1,025, simply cuz I just can’t justify splurging on kids clothes that they would wear a few times and then grow out. But now I will rent designer pieces for her not once, but several times a month. So don’t get startled if you see more of Riri here on the blog.

I think this is such a fantastic idea. Especially for us bloggers who always need a run of new clothes to share. I'm going to see if there's anything like this for London. xx
