This post is brought to you by Myriad Musings in partnership with ModCloth. I was sent a box of clothing items to style them my way and show you around some of the cool DC hang-outs. All ideas and opinions expressed are my own.

White House.
Politics.
House of Cards.
This is what comes to mind the second anyone mentions DC. Politics aside, there is so much more to this city. Families, urbanites, and foodies all find plenty to love in the Nation’s Capital. It’s home to the most free attractions, a staggering number of museums, the world-famous Kennedy Center, and Georgetown cupcakes that are worth the wait.
DC has changed so much ever since I moved here a decade ago. The evolution of the old DC has led to so many newer and multicultural neighborhoods and local hangouts, but the old DC charm remains. Having witnessed this and all the political drama these past few years, I now call this place home and I swear, “I wouldn’t have had it any other way!”
When visiting DC, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk. DC is all about exploring on foot. People here don’t have bigger cars, they have bigger bags! The city is well connected via subway and public buses, so getting from one part to another is always a breeze. Second, bring your appetite with you. The city is really diverse with multi-cuisine eateries, and you’ll want to try ’em all.

One of the newest and most sought-after neighborhoods is The Wharf, which boasts a dazzling view of the Anacostia River. Hot new restaurants and year-round family friendly activities make this location even more desirable. Consider yourself lucky if you find a reservation at any of the restaurants in under thirty minutes, ’cause this place is packed anytime of the week. When in this neighborhood, I make sure to stop by Milk Bar and pick up their Birthday Cake Latte—a playful spin on your regular latte (talk to me about the sprinkles!). Did your appetite just kick in? Then try their Bagel Bomb—a ball-shaped bagel with robust flavors of cream cheese and herbs stuffed inside of it. Yummy!
Just couple of miles east of The Wharf is Shaw DC. Named after Shaw Junior High School, the Shaw neighborhood has been home to the largest population of African Americans in Washington and is now home to two of my favorite places: the ModCloth DC FitShop and &pizza.
Unlike your regular retail store, where you walk in, try out, and walk out with a bag of goodies, ModCloth FitShops work on the concept of giving you a fitting-room experience of their virtual store. So you can try styles on in person and place an order with a ModStylist, with complimentary shipping! Make sure to book an appointment ahead of time.
Just around the corner from ModCloth is my new found love:&pizza. A new innovation in the pizza industry, &pizza makes the best and serves only thin-crust pizzas. Order a Gnarlic or craft your own. I also love that this place has gluten-free crust on the menu.
Who doesn’t love a sweet end to their day? Head over to Ladurée in Georgetown for a taste of Paris in DC. Georgetown is a shopper’s and food-lover’s paradise. Fashion and design stores along the cobblestone streets have turned the neighborhood into a must-go destination. The dining scene is defined by upmarket restaurants and waterfront seafood spots, while nightlife spans boisterous college bars, traditional taverns, and live music lounges. Don’t forget to pick out a box of colorful macarons from Ladurée on your way out of Georgetown!
I hope you get to visit DC and experience what it feels like to live in the Nation’s Capital. I promise, you will not be disappointed.
