I have always been a clean-freak and husband and daughter can bear testimony to that. I am sure they both will not have the happiest face acknowledging this, coz I am after their lives all the time to keep the house organized and presentable. Tell me if I am wrong in expecting things to be at the right place in right order, especially when you are juggling multiple things before you head out the door in the mornings. Is it wrong to find the umbrella at the right spot on a rainy weekday morning, is it a crime to find the key at the right place right when you are rushing out of the door, is it a sin to come home to a clean made-up bed after a long day at work – TELL ME????
If you think I am not wrong then you are lucky today…….to give myself the benefit of doubt, I am giving you all the more reasons ‘ why you should start making your own bed every morning!’
Making your bed doesn’t mean simply pulling back the comforter, topping it with some pillows and calling it a day. When I say “make your own bed”, I mean reorganizing the bed in it’s entirety. I understand that this might add some extra time to your already time-crunched mornings, but trust me the extra five minutes would be totally worth it— how and why?? Keep reading……
IT IS A GOOD HOUSEKEEPING HABIT
A habit that you can pass down to your younger ones. They learn from you and instilling good habits from a young age is a good practice in itself. There is no better feeling than coming home to a neatly laid bed that has your name written all over it.
IT SETS THE RIGHT NOTE FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAY
When you are able to finish your preset morning chores, you feel good all day. I am not talking about robust chores like laundry and vacuum, I am talking about little things like making your own bed. There is a sense of accomplishment and a feel-good-factor that you want to continue feeling all day. Believe me on days, very rare though, when I am not able to make my bed, I feel this discomfort. It is not a big deal but that sense of responsibility appears shaken. I come home, make the bed and ahhhhhh, I feel better again!
IT INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY
When you make your bed, you feel encouraged to clean your room too. Imagine one section of your room looking well organized and the other section that has clothes, shoes and towel lying on the floor- which one would you like more? Of course the cleaner bed and that will push you to pick up the scattered stuff to make the whole space look inviting. Also when your bed is made, you don’t feel like messing it up midday by tucking in and working from bed per se. The minute you are on the bed with a laptop, you get drowsy and loose all your focus. So make your bed if you want to stay productive all day.
LINENS AND PILLOWS WILL KEEP THEIR SHAPE BETTER
When you spend hundreds of dollars on 1500 thread count linens and fancy pillows to make your bed feel and look gram-worthy, you better take good care of it. Pulling the sheets tight and tucking em the right way will keep the linen from creasing and will increase their life. Having said that, I have fallen in deep love with these sheets. These sheets are ultra soft, anti-pill, strong, durable, hypoallergenic and made of hundred percent breathable lightweight cotton. Thanks to PeachSkinSheets for the spoiler, we are hooked for life. You can order swatches HERE to get a feel before you commit, coz they are definitely on the expensive side of bed linens.
IT REMOVES ALLERGENS
Dusting and pulling your sheets is a good practice as it removes dust and allergens. When you make your bed around the corners, it actually removes any allergens that usually stick around the folds and corners. You sleep better and wake up fresh. Hence this habit has intrinsic health benefits as well- even better!
I have been making my own bed ever since my mom taught us two decades ago and I am happy that my daughter is getting there. She needs a little assistance, but at least she is making efforts and is progressing. A good habit a day keeps mommy’s scoldings away……..!! Do you make your own bed??
