If there’s one thing I know everyone is buying right now, it’s dresses. Whether’s it’s that palm print maxi dress or the ruffle sleeve stripe wrap- “which dress to buy next is on everyone’s mind. “We all seem to be quite obsessed with dresses, that we all are looking forward to wearing more often as the weather finally warms up.
As much as I love the ease of slipping into this one-piece wonder, I often get stomped with the questions like “which footwear to wear with that abstract print midi dress or would this flats be flattering with that mini dress?” I bet- not only me, but we all could use some help in the dress-shoe-coordinating department.
There is not much to remember, just a few of the shoe-and-dress formulas that go together like, well, gin and tonic.
1) Mini dresses and chunky footwear – when you are baring a lot of gam skin, you can actually get away with wearing clunky heels and even boots. This of the inversely proportional rule. The shorter the hemline, the longer-in-shaft can be your shoes and vice-versa. Same with block heels. You can wear a mini dress and pair it with your favorite chunky heel for that cool-girl-vibe.
2) Midi pairs well with midi– calf length dresses look the most flattering when paired with a mid-heels aka kitten heels. You will never be judged for when wearing your favorite midi-dress with your new Zara kitten heels.
3) Maxi dresses with high heels– well, your dress might be floor-grazing but you definitely don’t want it to graze all the dust with it. To keep the dress clean and the hem-line off the floor, a pair of high heels come in handy. Personally, I prefer to wear a pair of sleek strappy sandals with my maxi dresses- it makes me look taller and slimmer.
4) Sexy sundresses and sexy flats – got a sexy, strapless sundress??? How about pairing it with a pair of sexy strappy flats?? This one might be contrary to the inversely proportional rule but sometimes you gotta take fashion risks and this one will definitely be worth it.
I am taking a fashion risk by pairing a midi-dress with a mid-shaft high heel. The high slit both in the front and on the sides render this dress an equivalent of a short dress, and hence the pairing works. What say??
