According to recent studies, Millennials account for one-third of all consumer spending. They are now the largest generation, surpassing Baby Boomers. The younger generation is more conscious of its surrounding and lifestyle, than ever before. They are working multiple jobs, doing several shifts, kicking in overtime hours, all for improving their lifestyle. Living the coveted life is everyone’s dream and millennials are willing to go that extra mile for enjoying that lifestyle upgrade.
Having said that, majority of Millennials now work dual jobs, maintain a couple job profiles and I am definitely not an exception to that. It ain’t easy but not impossible. I love facing the challenges posed everyday and the personal satisfaction and self-pride at the end of the day is beyond words. Well, the biggest, not exactly but second most challenging task after home-management, that I face is taking my outfit style from one job to another.
I don’t have the conventional 9-5 desk job, its a real flexible job. As for my office attire, there is no set dress code per se, but I like to maintain the workplace ethics. You would rarely see me in a structured pant suit, but you won’t find me in mini skirts either. I like to keep my clothing conservative and workspace appropriate. For instance I would wear that high-neck dress to work with those black booties, but in case a blogger event requires my presence later, how would I tweak my look to a more fashionable one???
Read along for some of my style hacks that most of the Millennials swear by.
1) Always bring a layering piece to office– be it a trench coat, or a blazer or even a kimono, which btw is going strong this season, a layering piece will come in handy when taking your look from office to dinner or an event. I would wear a printed something and add an extra layer of printed later for that oh-so-printastic-outfit.
2) A pair of high-heels go a long way– most of us have a pair of pumps hiding under our office desks. For those who are always in flats at work, a pair of classic heels, preferably in tan, should be considered having in your office. In winters I like to bring high heel sleek booties to work, simply coz they are slimming and elegant and pair well with every outfit.
3) Carry a bag with a few accessories– a few pieces of you favorite accessories, that are an effortless way to transform an office look to an evening look, can be kept in reserve at work. I generally rely on a pair of dangly earrings to take my office look up a notch. A silk scarf is also a good option to have in that accessory bag.
4) Consider bringing a makeup touchup– a little hair and makeup touch up and a sweep of bright lipstick at the end of the day would freshen up any look. Must-haves in your makeup bag: comb, hair-tie, hairspray, oil-blotting sheets, body spray, mascara, eyeliner, blush, translucent compact power and lipgloss. All these will come in really handy for those after-work parties.
