Undeniably, the day you turn thirty, everything including losing weight merely by exercising becomes a challenge. If you follow me on Instagram stories, you would be aware of my latest obsession with 305 Fitness, a 55 minute non-stop rigorous dance workout, which is not only intense but proven to be very energizing at the end. It has been a month my body sure feels better and lighter, but soon I realized that exercising alone wouldn’t help me shed all the weight I’ve put on from family visiting and eating meals cooked by others- food control was necessary too. It’s not that I diet, coz this girl loves to eat, I just try to eat healthily and improvise my cooking styles.
Breakfast is an essential meal of the day for us and is a must in my household. As easier as a bowl of cereals can get, I personally don’t serve it as much coz of its high sugar content. Once a week is the most we all would reach out for the cereal box, rest of the days it is either some Indian breakfast dish or this BERRY SMOOTHIE BOWL, that we all have been noshing on lately.
Ideally, it is made with Acai berry powder, but feel free to use any berries you have on hand. Since my grocer did not have the Acai berry the day I went to pick up ingredients for this recipe, I used a mix of frozen strawberries, blueberries and rasberries, that I had in my freezer. We use frozen berries to give it the thick custard-like consistency. It is very simple, gluten-free, filling and guilt-free breakfast, that you can make in less than five minutes. So keep reading for the recipe to this work of art….
SERVES 2
For the smoothie
- mixed frozen berries ( strawberries, raspberries, blueberries ) – 1 heaping cup
- frozen ripe banana – 1 ( 100g )
- unsweetened almond milk – 1/2 cup (this gives it a little flavor and is protein-enriched )
- vanilla protein powder – 1 scoop ( this is optional, but protein powder makes it filling )
Toppings
- shredded coconut- 1 tbsp
- granola as per taste
- sliced fruits of your choosing
- honey- optional
- chia seeds- 1 tbsp ( optional, I skipped mine )
Instructions
- Add frozen berries and banana slices to a blender and blend on low until small bits remain.
- Add a bit of almond milk and the protein powder, blend again. Feel free to add more almond milk in case the consistency is too thick. You don’t want it runny though.
- Scoop into the bowls and top with the desired toppings.
- Best if eaten fresh, but you can freeze the leftover for up to two weeks. Just thaw before eating.
Let me know how this turned out for you and what other toppings you would like to add to your ” berry smoothie bowl ” ??
