Believe it or not, the question that I get asked the most as a fashion blogger is “ do you actually own all those clothes ?” DUHHHHH, yes I own those clothes and yes I shop every month……no offense to anyone.
So for all those curious souls, who are always wondering how and where I shop and how I store all that mound, I am dedicating today’s post to you. I have compiled a list of questions that I get asked often, the answers to which follows.
Q: HOW DOES YOUR CLOSET LOOK LIKE, WE WOULE LOVE TO TAKE A PEEK INTO IT ?
A: Well, if you have been reading my blogs for a while, you would already know that we bought a house exactly a year ago. Since it is an old property, there’s not plenty of closet space. So, we decided to covert one bedroom into my closet. Call it lack of time or my laziness: I have not been able to finalize the plans yet. I have a couple of custom closet making companies lined up for quotes this weekend, hopefully something will materialize soon. Right now my closet is a bunch of big boxes with my summer clothes stuffed in them. There is a small closet in the room which is filled with my fall clothes to the brim. You might even find a few plastic dressers for my everyday essentials and one -shelf standing that has all my shoes that I wear the most. So you might have to wait a little more for the final closet reveal, I promise: you wont be disappointed!
Q: DO YOU BUY ALL YOUR CLOTHES ?
A: Yes lovelies, I buy most of my clothes. Unless mentioned, most of the clothes are my personal belonging. I have an ongoing partnership with a few clothing companies, who send me clothes on a monthly basis, and I call out whenever I wear those gifted pieces. Periodically, I also collaborate with clothing, shoes and lifestyle retailers and they send me gifts too. Other than these gifts, all are bought from my hard-earned money.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR MONTHLY SHOPPING BUDGET ?
A: I do have a monthly budget for shopping, which goes out from my blog earnings. Sorry, I can’t reveal that figure, hope you’ll understand! Most of the times, I am able to adhere to the preset budget, but seasonally I do max out and go over my budget. For instance, in winters a major chunk of my budget is allocated to buying winter coats, which is a big-ticket item, so I would allow myself some financial room for such seasonal items. Over these years, I have learnt the art of shopping. I usually shop online, which allows me to shop around and compare simultaneously. Online shopping also gives me the flexibly for extreme couponing, as most retailers allow you to stack coupons in one transaction. This way I stay in budget and buy what I need.
Q: HOW DO YOU MAKE ROOM FOR CLOTHES EVERY MONTH ?
A: I am a firm believer of closet-detoxing. Every season I purge, and clothes and shoes that no longer don’t fit me, but are in a wearable condition, I would list them for sale in my POSHMARK store, or otherwise donate them at Goodwill. Not only does this guarantee a closet clean up, but it also gives me an idea of what I own and what I need to shop for. There are bins in my closet labelled ‘ goodwill ‘, ‘ sell ‘ and ‘ return to store ‘. To simplify my work, I would toss pieces in these bins and when needed. This is a great way to keep track of the pile up.
