Have you ever felt like your doctors don’t take you seriously ?? You know that something is wrong with your health, but your doctor dismisses your concerns in no time. Have you ever felt like your world is ending and you are going to die ????
Well, that was my case a couple of years ago. Day in day out my health concerns were surmounting. There was unending brain fog, anxiety, gastrointestinal issues like bloating, belching, flatulence, IBS, physical manifestations like tingling and numbness in my hands, body aches and frequent migraine headaches. It was all debilitating. Most days, getting out of bed would be a challenge. Day to day activities would feel like a case of long-lost battleship. I am telling you, I was in mental and physical pain…!!
My medical practitioners attributed all my above symptoms to other seemingly unrelated individual symptoms that got me nowhere. They suggested MRI, Endoscopy, physical therapy, blood tests and so on so forth. Results: ALL CLEAR…..! There was nothing alarming whatsoever, everything came out normal. The doctors prescribed me anti-depressants, proton pump inhibitors, muscle relaxants and what not. But girl, in no way was I going to make these pills my life…..not so soon !!!
So, all my aforementioned concerns and my doctor’s boiling down my concerns to merely “being that of a newbie mom ” led to a comprehensive research. Through my own plodding research I stumbled upon this concept called “Gluten Sensitivity” and realized that all my symptoms were a true sign of gluten sensitivity. I was lucky enough to chit chat with a few other people who were gluten-sensitive and relate to their troubles…..girl, my mind was already feeling in harmony with my body. I decided to cut back on gluten, two weeks into this dietary change and my normalcy rate was almost at 80 percent. I felt like myself again: happy and enthusiastic. It has been about two years now, I am gluten -free. Occasionally, I would eat some gluten, but the after-effects are unpleasant, so I try to avoid gluten as much s possible. So, if you anyone of you could empathize with any of this, don’t feel alone. Try going gluten free for a few days and see if that makes any difference.
Well, my story doesn’t end here: while I was happy that I had finally self-diagnosed my strange illness, I was sad coz I had to let go a lot of my favorite foods like burgers, pastas, baked deserts, Indian breads, anything that had wheat was off charts….even PIZZA ! Initially it did feel like the end of my world, but I was willing to go that extra mile and change my lifestyle. I improvised my recipes with gluten free options. Life was going okay, with occasional thoughts of my favorite foods, but when a little birdie told me that Papa John’s now makes THESE, the food lover in me suddenly hit a jackpot……
Papa Johns now offers this yummy pizza with a gluten-free crust that is not only a healthier option for people with gluten-insensitivity, but yummy too. The GF crust is crunchy and made of ancient grains, basically it is a treat without any compromise on taste. You can’t imagine my excitement…….it is exactly what a pizza-lover needs on an afternoon of “Pizza and Paint” with my toothless partner-in-crime—- whomp whomp !
Ribhya and I both enjoy painting, and Friday afternoon was just the day for a backyard splatter session. We ordered pizza, made her favorite orange infused water and did some painting and lots of goofing around. So if you are someone with gluten-sensitivity and love pizza, you no longer have to drool at the sight of your near ones devouring it, just pick up your phone and order THIS now and you’ll thank me later…….guaranteed!
