I’ve always tried to repurpose my closet in the best possible ways and have come to a conclusion “that a dress can be best reused as a top.” There could be a gazillion other ways to style a dress but using it as a top is the smartest sartorial use, especially when the dress is long and peeks through the skirt. There is just something so charismatic about wearing a dress as a top, that it makes me want to take this look to work as well- whomp whomp !
Styling your dress like this is no rocket science. Just a few tips and you’ll be able to call this look your no-brainer statement-maker.
- GO FOR SLIMMER SILHOUETTES– you don’t want to look frumpy with all the layering. A slip/camisole dress, that fits closer to the body, works the best. Not exactly a body-hugging dress, but a straighter cut that fits closer but not tight. The loose hem look peeking from under the skirt is kind of appealing.
- KEEP THE SKIRT SHORTER– a little peek of your dress from under the skirt is always dramatic, but in a good way. It definitely shows your precision towards dimensional detailing. I tried an A-line mini skirt with the same dress and it looked equally good too. So both a pencil and an a-line cut would work with this look.
- GO FOR CONTRASTS AND PRINTS– think of your dress as a plain canvas, now it’s up to you to add colors and textures and make it outstanding. I used the paisley printed skirt to add that dimension to an otherwise plain Jane dress. You could choose to go for a plain over a printed dress as well!
- HAVE FUN WITH YOUR ACCESSORIES– add a little more drama to your look with some statement accessories. Opt for a bold necklace or even a bold cuff, both will take your look up a notch.
