As we have clearly seen over the years, the fashion industry is an ever-changing, ever-growing phenomenon, with a myriad of established or up-and-coming designers constantly reinventing the notion of style and how we should design our appearance. Nevertheless, there are certain themes and trends that keep recurring and reverberating throughout all the major fashion shows, which is a testament of their versatility and timeless specificity.
The vintage style is the perfect example of this, as we have seen it echoing in almost every major collection of the last few years. Whether it’s Michael Kors, Bottega Veneta or Prada we’re talking about, they have all displayed a dazzling array of patterns, fabrics, and textures that make us think the ’70s are just around the corner.
It’s safe to assume that the flare pants and tweed-filled retro style will stay with us a bit longer and continue to influence our fashion choices, whether we are aware of it or not. So rather than ignoring it, let’s attempt to explore it for a few moments and see how we can ideally incorporate this recurring theme into our everyday wardrobe.

This 2015 DAKS fashion show, for instance, seemed to feature a fabulous homage to the ‘70s, with an overall vibe of casual sophistication. These blue high-waist pants, combined with a tight checkered sweater would look great in the office setting for a spring or autumn attire. Combine it with a brown leather jacket and a vintage-style carry-on and you’ll be ready to start your day fashionably.
When it comes to the ladies’ fashion, however, the possibilities of recreating the vintage vibe seem to be endless. Even though the major fashion trends these days seem to be moving towards a genderless, androgynous look, thus blurring the lines between masculine and feminine, there are still a few designers who choose to recreate the retro style for a timeless, feminine appearance.
Take Michael Kors, for instance. In his latest collections he has made some pretty serious retro statements, making the animal print, the knee-length dresses and the Earth colors fashionable again. He has also brought back the black fringed dress, reminiscent of that old Chicago jazz vibe we’ve grown to appreciate so much.
You can rock the vintage style this summer with a reclaimed floral maxi dress, paired with some flat suede boots and a brown fedora hat. This look is excellent for an outdoor music festival or a casual night out with your girlfriends.
Alternatively, for a more conservative attire, you can match some high-waist striped pants with a silk bottomed-up shirt, which will work great both for the office environment, as well as for a business networking event.
As we have clearly seen, while the fashion world is constantly evolving, there are certain essential trends that keep influencing all major collections and this brings us to the conclusion that the common principles of style will always apply, regardless of how innovative our clothing industry will continue to be. So don’t be afraid to borrow some inspiration from the golden days, but make sure to always maintain your authenticity and choose only those particular items that complement both your shape and personality.
Thanks for stopping by loves.
