There is nothing like a monochromatic outfit. A trend that never goes out of style and a trend that I always enjoy wearing. It’s like a blank canvas with plenty of styling options and immense potential for prints and patterns.
It is the easiest, most effortless fashion trend. While I can go on a rant about how much I love a monochromatic look, below are some easy to follow rules that I swear by for a fail proof monochromatic look that is everything but boring.
Rule #1– choose colors that flatter your skin. Folks with a cooler undertone should go for cooler colors like blues, pinks, silver. While folks with a warmer undertone should opt for warmer shades like reds, oranges, yellows. Having picked out the right color for your skin and hair color will enhance any outfit and will always make you feel and look your best.

- Blouse- ZARA, shop it here
- Pants- ZARA, shop it here
- Bag- FENDI, shop same here
- Trench- Ann Taylor, another beautiful option in yellow
Rule #2– after color comes details, textures and patterns. I am a self-proclaimed prints queen- prints always make me happy. The key to achieving interest in any monochromatic look is to mix different textures and patterns. For instance in my all red look- the top has that cowl neck collar and the heels have a snakeskin print, both of which give this look the wow factor.
Rule #3- always have a third piece. To break the color monotony, choose a third clothing item when wearing a set. It could be a jacket, a scarf or even a cardigan, a third piece will guaranteed take the look up all notches. A denim jacket never disappoints and is always the safest bet over anything. In my case the trench is that third piece.
Rule #4– last but not the least: ‘don’t overdo!’ It may seem easier to just go for a look which has fifty shades of the same color, head-to-toe, but honestly unless you are a color-connoisuer, don’t even think about it. It’s usually a hit or a miss, and my experience has always witnessed a miss. So in short, keep your accessories neutral just like I played safe with a neutral bag and nude lips.
These are for my rules…..do you have any rules for rocking this #monochromatic trend ????
